    Can Reiki Help with Anxiety? What I've Seen in 15 Years of Practice

    If you're living with anxiety, you know it's not just a mental state. It's a physical experience. It's the tightness in your chest, the shallow breathing, the restless legs, the "buzzing" feeling in your nervous system that won't turn off. You can't always think your way out of a physical response.

    This is where Reiki becomes a powerful ally. In my 15 years of practice, I've seen how energy work addresses anxiety where it lives—in the body's subtle energy field.

    Calming the Fight-or-Flight Response

    Anxiety keeps your body in a state of high alert, the sympathetic nervous system's fight-or-flight response. Reiki helps shift the body into the parasympathetic nervous system—the "rest and digest" state. When this shift happens, the physical symptoms of anxiety begin to dissolve. Heart rate slows, breathing deepens, and the muscle tension you've been carrying for days finally releases.

    Clearing Energetic Blockages

    From an energetic perspective, anxiety often looks like "trapped" energy in the upper body, especially the solar plexus and heart chakras. During a session, we work to clear these blockages and ground the energy back down through the lower body and into the earth. This creates a feeling of being "rooted" rather than "floating" or "scattered."

    For someone with anxiety, being still can feel threatening. Reiki provides a safe container for that stillness.
