Permanent Cosmetics Aftercare: How to Protect Your Investment

    Practitioner & Guide

You've just invested in yourself with a permanent cosmetics treatment. Whether it's brows, eyeliner, or lip blush, the work I do in the studio is only 50% of the result. The other 50% happens during the first 10 to 14 days of healing. If you don't follow aftercare, you risk pigment loss, uneven healing, or even infection.

    The Golden Rule: Hands Off

Your treated area is essentially a fresh wound. Do not touch it with unwashed hands. Do not pick at any flaking or scabbing. If you pick, you will pull the pigment right out of the skin, leaving a gap in your results. Let the skin fall off naturally.

Keep It Dry (But Not Too Dry)

For the first 7-10 days, you must keep the area away from excessive water. This means no long, steamy showers, no swimming, and no heavy sweating at the gym. When you wash your face, work around the treated area. I will provide a specific healing ointment—use it exactly as directed. A thin layer (think the size of a grain of rice) is all you need. The goal is to keep the skin hydrated, not smothered.

    Sun and Makeup

Direct sunlight is the enemy of fresh pigment. Avoid sun exposure for at least 14 days. Once healed, always wear SPF over the area to prevent fading. Also, do not apply any makeup, creams, or cleansers directly on the treated area until it is completely healed. You don't want to introduce bacteria or chemicals into the open skin.

    What "Normal" Looks Like

It is completely normal for the color to look much darker and bolder for the first few days. It is also normal for the color to seem to "disappear" during the second week as new skin grows over it. The true color will "bloom" back to the surface by week 4 or 5. This is why we wait 6-8 weeks for your touch-up session.

    When to Call Me

A little bit of redness and tenderness is expected. However, if you notice excessive swelling, yellow discharge, or if the area feels hot to the touch, please reach out to me immediately or consult a healthcare professional.

Following these steps ensures that your investment lasts as long as possible and looks as beautiful as we intended. If you have any questions during your healing process, I am only a text away.

Book your touch-up if you're nearing the 6-week mark!
